What we do
We are an active and ever-increasing group with a lively programme of events that harness the energy and talent in Whitstable. As part of the Transition Network, we aim to address this BIG question:
-
“for all those aspects of life that this community needs in order to sustain itself and thrive, how do we significantly increase resilience (to mitigate the effects of Peak Oil) and drastically reduce carbon emissions (to mitigate the effects of Climate Change)?”
We are developing working groups with special interests.
We are part of the Transition Triangle with Canterbury and Faversham. All of us based in Kent in the UK.
Our Mission Statement & Constitution
Transition Town Whitstable achieved Transition status in December 2007. We aim to reduce our carbon footprint and dependency on fossil fuels. We will achieve our aim by:
- Mobilising community action
- Raising awareness, providing information and empowering action
- Networking with groups and people already engaged in these issues
- Identifying and setting up positive action projects to reduce our carbon footprint and dependency on fossil fuels
- Creating a plan for the future – an ‘Energy Descent Action Plan’
